Summers Concrete Contracting and R. C. Construction of Greenwood Mississippi have teamed to pave Runway 3-21 at Charleston AFB. The project consists of 118,000 S.Y. of 15 pavement. This joint venture brings two high production concrete plants, two Gomaco paving trains and two highly motivated crews to bear upon the project.
Summers and R.C. blended crews to perform the intersection work which was the 200 on each side of the primary runway 15-33. This difficult piece of runway replacement had to be performed between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 AM. The concrete paving of this portion is now complete. The combined crew removed the old pavement structure, placed a new base course and paved 16 new lanes of 15 concrete from June 9th until July 5th. The shoulders and final electrical work are in progress.
Mr. John Powers, President of R. C. Construction and Brian Summers, President of Summers Concrete Contracting are very proud of the exemplary performance of the two crews and are looking forward to paving the rest of the project.
The current pictures depict some of this effort.
